Prevalence of central venous catheter salvage in newborn with staphylococcal bloodstream infection

ABSTRACT Objectives: to establish the prevalence of salvage central venous catheters in newborns with bloodstream infection caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci. Methods: retrospective cross-sectional study 136 admitted Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between 2011 and 2017. The total 143 events undergoing antibiotic therapy were evaluated. Results: among events, 39 which was used saved 69 cases, device removed. Positive blood culture single lumen catheter factors associated failure. probability decreased infections diagnosed from 15 days using catheter. Negative raised chance fourfold. Conclusions: use treatment resulted a low variables device.
